christ-cli lets you read the Bible right in your Command Line Interface (CLI). You can view passages, search for words, and navigate books and chapters without opening any web browser or app. It works directly in Windows PowerShell, Command Prompt, or any terminal emulator that runs on Windows.
This tool is designed for ease and speed. It runs fast and is simple to use, even if you don’t have any programming experience. All you need is a Windows computer.
christ-cli works on most Windows systems. Here’s what you need before starting:
- Windows 10 or newer
- At least 100 MB of free disk space
- Basic knowledge of opening Command Prompt or PowerShell
- An active internet connection for first-time setup and updates (optional)

Download christ-cli from GitHub Releases
This page has all available versions of christ-cli. Pick the latest Windows version. The file will usually end with .exe.
Once you download the file, save it in a folder you can easily find, like your Desktop or Downloads folder.
christ-cli does not need complex installation like some programs. Just follow these steps:
- Locate the
.exefile you downloaded. - Double-click it to run. Windows will launch the program in a terminal window.
- If the terminal closes immediately or you want to see commands clearly, open Command Prompt or PowerShell yourself:

cmdfor Command Prompt orpowershellfor PowerShell, then press Enter - Use the
cdcommand to go to the folder where you saved christ-cli, for example:cd Desktop - Run the program by typing the name of the
.exefile, for example:christ-cli.exe

If Windows asks for permission before running the program, select "Run" or "Yes".
Once running, you will see commands and simple menus. Here are some common tasks you can do:

Read a book
Type the name of a Bible book likeGenesis,John, orPsalms. Press Enter. The program will show the first chapter. -
Navigate chapters
Use the commandsnextandprevto go forward or backward between chapters. -
Read a specific chapter
Type the book name followed by the chapter number, like:John 3Then press Enter.

Search words or phrases
Use thesearchcommand followed by your term, for example:search loveThe results will show verses that include the word.

Help command
Typehelpto see all available commands any time. -
Exit program
Typeexitto close the program.

If the CLI window closes too fast, run christ-cli from Command Prompt or PowerShell instead of double-clicking the file. This way, you can read messages or errors.

If commands do not work, check spelling carefully. The program expects Bible book names as input.

If you can’t find the downloaded file, search for it in your Downloads folder or Desktop.

Make sure your Windows is updated. Outdated systems may have trouble running some programs.

If you see error messages about missing files, try downloading the latest version again.
New versions come out to improve features or fix bugs. To update:
