This section provides a clear general introduction to foundation models, but it currently reads more like a background on NLP/CV foundation models than a discussion tailored to biomedical data. Since this review focuses on biomedical foundation models, it would be helpful to more explicitly explain how these pretraining ideas change when applied to biomedical modalities such as EHRs, omics, proteins, or medical imaging. |
