Josiah Wilson

I build systems that make complicated information easier to understand, inspect, and act on. My work moves between software, AI-assisted research, civic data, education, hardware, and the occasional project that exists because the joke was too specific not to build.

The complete record—including experiments, limitations, and work still in progress—lives at josiahwilson.me.

Selected work

Project What it is Explore
Neural Firmware Arithmetic An experiment in embedding deterministic arithmetic circuits inside a small language model's activation pathways. Code and results
Universe Screen A native macOS and Metal interface that represents projects as worlds and live coding agents as spacecraft moving through them. Code · Article
Open Learning Atlas An open map of mathematical knowledge and capability designed for learners, educators, and AI tutors. Code · Article
Western Magnet Supply Chain A facility-level map of the Western NdFeB magnet supply chain, with an evidence-backed capacity register across 20 process stages. Code and research · Article
CostClaw A local OpenClaw plugin for cache-aware LLM usage and cost telemetry, with a private on-device dashboard. Code · Article
OpenWaterTowers An open civic atlas for documenting water towers and public water-storage landmarks with sources and provenance attached. Code · Article

How I work

Most of my projects begin with a concrete frustration, an unanswered question, or a system whose important relationships are difficult to see. I try to make the problem observable, build a useful artifact, and preserve enough evidence to distinguish what was intended from what actually happened.

AI agents are often part of the implementation team. I use them heavily for engineering, research, and iteration while keeping human judgment responsible for direction, constraints, review, and publication. The project articles document that collaboration directly instead of presenting agent-assisted work as if it appeared fully formed.

I am especially interested in:

  • human-owned tools and durable personal context;
  • interfaces that make complex systems legible;
  • deterministic infrastructure around uncertain AI or expert work;
  • open civic, scientific, and educational resources;
  • the meeting point between software and the physical world.

Elsewhere

I am based in the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho area and am open to thoughtful collaborations, paid work, employment opportunities, and interesting problems worth investigating.
