Supersedes fork-headed PR #727. This replacement keeps the same head commit (504c802) but moves the PR head onto an Automattic/kandelo branch.
Why this is needed
The PHPT harness and PHP subprocess tests rely on boxed process construction paths. Removing or breaking those helpers leaves callers unable to build process instances consistently.
Why this shape makes sense
This is a small compatibility restoration in the process construction layer. Keeping it focused makes the dependency explicit for later PHP-driven runtime fixes.
Why this is the correct fix
Restoring the helper API preserves the local abstraction that existing process code expects instead of duplicating construction logic at call sites.
Verification
Branch-location correction only. Replacement head SHA matches fork-headed PR #727 exactly.
