# MDM Removal Guide for School iPads
### Last Tested: December 13, 2024, on iOS 17.6.1

**⚠️ Disclaimer: Use this guide responsibly and at your own risk. This process deletes all data on the iPad and may have other unintended consequences. Always back up your data beforehand.**

## Important Notes
All data will be erased. Export your files and photos to cloud storage or another device before proceeding.
you can Re-enrollment is possible by resetting the ipad. This method does not prevent the school from regaining control if the iPad reconnects to their system.
Tested on an Older jamf MDM System and tested on windows pc
Required App: You will need iBackupBot.

## Instructions
Option 1: Start from Scratch
1. Wipe the iPad
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.
Proceed through the setup screens until you reach the Wi-Fi page.
Connect to a hotspot or a network you can turn off instantly.

2. Block MDM Installation
Continue setup until the MDM configuration request appears.
Important: When you reach the home screen, immediately turn off your hotspot to block restrictions from downloading.
Verify MDM is not installed:
Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
If no restrictions appear, you’re good to proceed.

3. Back Up the iPad
Connect the iPad to a PC using a Lightning/USB-C cable.
Open iTunes, go to the Backups section, select This Computer, and click Back Up Now.

4. Modify the Backup
Download and install iBackupBot.
Open iBackupBot and locate the backup named Admin’s iPad.
Expand System Files and search for “config.”
Delete these files:
config
UserConfigurationsProfiles
ConfigurationProfiles

5. Restore the Modified Backup

Return to iTunes, select Restore Backup, and choose the modified backup.
Complete the setup process as if the iPad is new.

## Option 2: Using a Pre-Cracked Backup
If you already have a modified backup:
1. Wipe the iPad
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.
Proceed to the setup screens until the welcome screen appears.

2. Restore the Cracked Backup
Connect your iPad to a PC.
Place the cracked backup in the directory:
C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Open iTunes, select Restore Backup, and choose the cracked backup.

3. Complete the setup process as if the iPad is new.

## What is This?
This guide helps you remove MDM (Mobile Device Management) from school or organization-controlled iPads.

MDM (Mobile Device Management) is a thing schools, companies, or groups use to control devices like iPads. They can stop you from installing apps they don’t like or send commands to the iPad.
MDM is used to restrict apps, enforce settings, or send commands.
This guide is 100% free—no sketchy apps or payments required.
Works even if iTunes blocks you with:
"This device is controlled by another computer."

Follow these steps to remove MDM from your iPad. Just know, it might break the rules of whoever owns the device. This is just for learning, so don’t get in trouble!
## Tools You Need
A Windows PC
iBackupBot
iTunes
A Lightning/USB-C cable
A controllable Wi-Fi or hotspot

## Instructions
Option 1: Start Fresh

1. Erase the iPad:
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.

2. Block MDM:
Set up the iPad and connect to a hotspot.
When you reach the home screen, turn off the hotspot.
Confirm MDM isn’t installed:
Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.

3. Back Up the iPad:
Connect to your PC and back up using iTunes.

4. Edit the Backup:
Open iBackupBot and delete these files:
config
UserConfigurationsProfiles
ConfigurationProfiles

5. Restore the Backup:
Use iTunes to restore the edited backup.
Set up the iPad again.

### Done! No more MDM.

## Option 2: Use a Pre-Cracked Backup

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.

2. Restore the Backup:
Place the cracked backup in this folder:
C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Use iTunes to restore it.
