Preparing for the Workshop:

Learning HTML and CSS:

If you don't know anything about HTML, don't worry, it's really simple. If you don't know CSS, don't worry, it's really simple.

And...

It's your lucky day - really it's your lucky week! Devfest is all this week at Columbia, and:

Wed Feb 4, there's an HTML session: Build Websites with HTML 8:30pm - 10pm | Pupin 428 Tutorial

Thu Feb 5 there's a CSS session: Style and Layout with CSS 8:30pm - 10pm | Schermerhorn 501 Tutorial

Both of those look like really good introductions to HTML and CSS, but of course the best way to learn it is to practice it yourself a bit.

If you'd rather watch a screencast on HTML: Watch this one hour course on HTML and you're good to go.

If you want to get it all done in one go late at night, go through the Codecademy HTML & CSS track: http://www.codecademy.com/en/tracks/web

Other CSS resources:

w3schools CSS Intro, Codecademy web beginner, Bootstrap 3

If you want to learn Sass: Web Design with Sass (don't worry about Compass)
