After eba8385, plot_results creates a "Results" group in the signal panel, breaking panel-wide index lookups. Use group-local lookups so the test is robust against extra groups.

Internal ObjectView.get_current_item_id() had no public proxy counterpart, forcing callers (and AI assistants) to fetch the full current object just to read its UUID.
Ensures plotting settings are reapplied when the color mode changes. Keeps plot appearance consistent with the active theme instead of leaving stale default settings in place.

Uses an application-specific debug flag so unrelated tooling or CI settings no longer trigger debug mode by accident. Prevents unexpected startup side effects, including silent configuration resets, and updates the docs and release notes to reflect the new variable name.
