groq_client is lazily initialized without any synchronization. With concurrent requests, multiple coroutines can observe groq_client is None and create separate AsyncGroq instances (overwriting the global and potentially leaking open connections). Consider initializing the client once during app startup (lifespan) or guarding initialization with an asyncio.Lock/double-checked locking helper (e.g., get_groq_client()).

Same lazy groq_client initialization race here as in /ai-voice: concurrent calls to this endpoint can create multiple AsyncGroq clients and overwrite the global. Prefer a shared, synchronized get_groq_client() (or startup initialization) to ensure a single client instance per process.

The new non-mock Groq path (using AsyncGroq + await ...create(...)) is not covered by existing automated tests: backend/tests/run_tests.py forces FORCE_MOCK_GROQ=1, so this branch never executes. Consider adding a unit/integration test that disables the mock flag and monkeypatches AsyncGroq/groq_client with an async stub to assert the awaited call is made and the response is handled correctly (without hitting the network).

Same test gap for /initiate-transfer: existing tests run with FORCE_MOCK_GROQ=1, so the AsyncGroq call path isn’t exercised. Adding a test with a monkeypatched async client (returning a canned completion) would validate this logic without requiring external Groq connectivity.

Previously, a 1.5s network call would block all other processing for 1.5s. Now, it offloads correctly, keeping the event loop unblocked.
🔬 Measurement: Verified using a mock blocking test script that monitored an asyncio heartbeat task. Synchronous
