Hi, I'm Hugo 👋

Software & Solution Architect · Backend · Distributed Systems

I design reliable, scalable systems where performance, networking, and operability matter.

About me

  • I work mainly on backend architecture, distributed systems, and event-driven platforms.
  • I enjoy solving problems involving concurrency, network protocols, performance, and scalability.
  • Java is my primary ecosystem; I use Rust for low-level and performance-sensitive systems.
  • I build and operate workloads with Kubernetes, containers, messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure.
  • I use AI-assisted engineering to explore solutions, accelerate prototypes, review code, improve tests, and document systems—while keeping architecture, validation, and technical decisions human-owned.

How I use AI

I use AI to move faster without giving up ownership of the engineering work.

  • Explore architecture options and challenge design assumptions.
  • Prototype bounded ideas and automate repetitive implementation work.
  • Review code, generate test scenarios, and surface edge cases.
  • Improve technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Validate every result through tests, benchmarks, and human review.

Selected work

Horizontally scalable multiplayer game servers

A proof of concept for scaling a Minecraft network across multiple Kubernetes pods and regions.

A Go backend synchronizes multiplayer servers by forwarding selected network packets through a fast decoder and encoder. Agones scales game servers according to player count and available resources.

An experimental DDoS protection system built with Rust and eBPF, focused on real-time traffic analysis, adaptive rate limiting, and anomaly detection.

A lightweight Java utility around ExecutorService for asynchronous, delayed, and repeating tasks.

A Java library for resolving Maven dependencies at runtime instead of bundling them into an application JAR.

Current interests

  • High-performance Java and systems programming with Rust.
  • Event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and fault tolerance.
  • Network programming, eBPF, and infrastructure security.
  • AI-assisted software delivery, developer tooling, and AI agents.
  • Kubernetes-native platforms and production observability.

Build fast systems. Keep production boring.
