How can we improve the CONTRIBUTING.md this guideline document so someone knows how to contribute a one-hour session?

Same question. Do you find the ADVERTISEMENT.md guideline document clear enough?

New activities for the Study Group:

  • Codefest: a hackathon of one day to develop scripts (qpcr-in-r), online applications (Shiny app for qPCR) or submit datasets to public repositories (NCBI SRA, MetaboLights).
  • Carpentry workshops in September?
  • R and Python curriculums: from zero to hero. 6 * 2h in October/November/December

See who has applied on April 8th. (update) I did!

New board meeting

End of June? What for:

  • To welcome new board members and introduce each other.
  • Suggest the next semester lesson topics.
  • To implement the new activities

Contributing

We need identified a section for the host and the teacher: checklist similar to that of the Carpentries Foundation workshop:

  • who is the audience? how many people?

Everyone was fine with it as it is now.

New activities

Organising 4 Carpentry Workshops a year:

  1. Data Carpentry inspired workshop for R -> Sept/Oct
  2. Official Software Carpentry workshop (Python/Git/Shell) -> Oct/Nov
  3. Data Carpentry Genomics workshop -> Nov/Dec
  4. Other workshop:
  • metagenomics?
  • geospatial data

Coding sprint

The first one on June 6th might be a little bit too close in terms of timing.
Yet, two ideas:

  • qPCR shiny app: Max van Hooren, Joachim Goehart, R expert from Utrecht, Gooitzen Zwanenburg (Age Smilde's group)
  • metagenomics (metabarcoding 16S rRNA) lesson development: Like Fokkens, Marc Galland, Sergio Arrendendo, Mattias de Hollander.
