What Are Ranks?

Ranks are achieved by crossing certain point thresholds in a puzzle. They are based on percentages of the total score of the puzzle, rounded to the nearest whole number. While the percentages stay the same across puzzles, the actual point values needed to achieve those percentages differ, since different puzzles have a different number of total points.

The following list shows each rank followed by the percentage of the total score needed to achieve that rank:

  1. Beginner: 0%
  2. Good Start: 2%
  3. Moving Up: 5%
  4. Good: 8%
  5. Solid: 15%
  6. Nice: 25%
  7. Great: 40%
  8. Amazing: 50%
  9. Genius: 70%
  10. Queen Bee: 100%

Technical Considerations

Because a user's rank for a puzzle is calculated from their current score relative to the total score, the rank does not need to be persisted to the database. It can simply be calculated on the front end after the puzzle and user puzzle data are loaded.
