mntn sync --syncmntn supports macOS, Linux, and Windows with platform-specific features:
- All platforms: setup, backup, clean, install, migrate, purge, restore, registry management, use, profile, sync, validate
- macOS only: biometric-sudo, delete command, Homebrew cask support
- Linux/Windows: systemd services (Linux) and Task Scheduler (Windows) for automation
The setup command provides an interactive wizard for configuring mntn:

mntn uses a profile-based architecture that simplifies configuration management by focusing on profiles rather than machines or environments. This makes it easy to switch between different setups on any computer and share configurations across devices.

When restoring, mntn resolves sources in this order (highest priority first):
- Profile (
profiles/<profile-name>/) - Profile-specific (if active) - Common (
common/) - Shared across all profiles - Legacy (root
backup/) - Backwards compatibility
Example: If you have:

With profile work active, the work version is used. Without an active profile, the common version is used.

mntn uses a copy-based approach for managing dotfiles. This means:
- Backup copies files from your system to the backup location
- Restore copies files from the backup location to your system
- Changes to config files require running

The recommended workflow with mntn is:
- Edit your config files normally (e.g.,
~/.zshrc) - Backup your changes:

On another machine:
- Pull latest:

The migrate command moves files from the legacy location (flat backup directory) to the layered structure:

File Mismatch Validation:
The validator automatically compares your current filesystem files with their backed-up versions in ~/.mntn/backup/. This helps you:
- Detect unsaved changes: See if you've edited files locally but haven't backed them up
- Identify drift: Find files that differ from your backups
- Encrypted files: For encrypted registry entries, you'll be prompted for a password once to decrypt and compare
