This repository contains metadata for the ICEMELT Broadband Seismometer Experiment.
The ICEMELT broadband Seismometer Experiment was designed to determine the upper mantle structure beneath Iceland, a hot spot located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This seismic network covered the entire island of Iceland with an average 100km station spacing. Each station was equipped with a 16-bit Reftek RT72A-06 data logger, a GPS timing system, and a Streckeisen STS-2 seismometer. Data was recorded continuously at 10 Hz and additionally at 50 Hz for limited time spans such as for triggered events. Event-based data was archived in 1998 at the IRIS DMC as assembled dataset 98-007, but that dataset skipped the continuous data. This dataset aims to archive all ICEMELT experiment data, as recovered from backup tapes stored at Carnegie Science converted into MiniSEED format
The station.xml directory contains a Python script which uses ObsPy to generate
a metadata file in StationXML format.
The directory dataset-98-007-docs contains copies of old text files describing
the assembled dataset 98-007 for reference.
The directory tape-recovery contains information related to the data recovery
from field and backup tapes.
