Cleanup module

This PR does the following:

• Removes the redundant README file.
• Removes redundant logic, and pulls some logic up to the front of functions for improved performance.
• Moves _required_for_pub_field_is_empty logic into its own function for improved code legibility.
• Removes variables which are calculated and not used.
• Adds translation support where possible.
• Spacing and general coder-review fixes.
• Assorted typo & language cleanup.
