Using Exported Files

Using your spritesheets isn't terribly complicated, but there are a few issues.

  1. Before anything else, you'll need to install CustomKnight. For Hollow Knight 1.5, use Scarab.

  2. Open up steam, right click Hollow Knight, click "manage", and then "browse local files". Go to Hollow Knight Data/Managed/Mods/CustomKnight.

  3. Make a new folder and name it whatever you want the name of your skin to be

  4. Move the spritesheets into the folder.

  5. Many have incorrect names and you will need to rename them for the game to recognize them.

    • Knight.png is fine and can stay as is

    • Quirrel.png is fine and can stay as is

    • Change "Abyss Dream Cln.png" to "Birthplace.png"

    • Change "Collect Scream 2 Cln.png" to "Shriek.png"

    • Change "Dream Nail Get Cln.png" to "Dreamnail.png"

    • Change "Hornet Blizzard Scene Cln.png" to "Hornet.png"

    • Change "HUD Cln.png" to "HUD.png"

    • Change "Knight DJump Cutscene Cln.png" to "Wings.png"

    • Change "Knight Dream Cutscene Cln.png" to "DreamArrival.png"

    • Change "Knight Dream Gate Cln.png" to "Sprint.png"

    • Change "Knight Slug Cln.png" to "Unn.png"

    • Change "Shadow Dash Collect Cln.png" to "Cloak.png"

    • Change "Spell Effects 2.png" to "Wraiths.png"

    • Change "Spider Custcene Cln.png" to "Webbed.png"

There are some that are not listed here, mostly spells.

  6. To add an image preview for your skin, name it "icon.png". They should be 300 x 128 pixels.

  7. Once you are done putting all of your spritesheets in and renaming if necessary, you can open the game and test your skin.
