We also have an awards page at https://contribute.cncf.io/community/awards that should be synced with this.

Do we still need this repo if we have the same info over there? Should we just update this README to be a pointer to the contribute site?

Excellent. Can you check to see if we have a single accurate list of awards from both locations? I think they diverged at some point. With that info confirmed I can make the updates here and there.
