What are these weird stripes and dots? On the Apple ][ there were only 6 colors: black, white, blue, magenta, green, and orange. Artists had to rely on dithering these basic colors to achieve a wider range of colors and textures, and had only about 0.05 megapixels to work with.
We will enter the game with a powerful party called "Rings," consisting of Gimli the fighter, Elendil the paladin, Aragorn the ranger, and Gandalf the wizard. The game was saved in Arrinea near Blackmoore Bay. When it reloads, you see the map, and in this case, we also brought up the fast status display. When you move the party, the map scrolls. This section of map is a tiny fraction of the whole game, which has four realms, 31 towns & castles, and 15 dungeons.
Well, the Dungeon of Darkness is only a few steps to the east, let's go in! On the first level the monsters run from us, but we caught this goblin, and Aragorn made short work of him with the Vorpal Blade.
A few more levels down and the monsters are no longer afraid of us. These spectres managed to use their sleep spell on Aragorn before Elendil dispelled them with the Holy Blade.
On level seven we encountered some white dragons. This is getting more dangerous, so Gandalf used his Disintegrate spell to quickly thin them out.
If we went down to level 8 we might run into gold dragons, which are the most dangerous of all. There are 25 kinds of monsters haunting the dungeons of Realm.
