General instructions

To play FrEee, you'll need the .NET desktop runtime installed. Typically this will be the latest version, which is at the time of writing version 10.

Special instructions for Linux and macOS

Even if you're not playing the game on Windows, you'll want to download the Windows version of .NET. This is because to play on Linux (or macOS, though I haven't tried that because I don't own a Mac), you'll need to use a Windows compatibility layer called Proton. Proton is available as part of Steam, so download that if you don't have it already. Then you'll want to:

  1. Create a non-Steam game entry in Steam for FrEee pointing at the .NET desktop runtime installer.
  2. Run that non-Steam "game" to install .NET (you'll need to do this even if you've already installed .NET for another Steam game because they live in separate environments).
  3. Change the non-Steam game entry you created to point at FrEee.WinForms.exe.

Now you should be able to play FrEee by launching it from inside Steam.
