💡 What: Optimized whitespace removal and secret detection in scripts/02_validate_clean.py. Fixed a NameError in heidi_engine/telemetry.py by removing a redundant and broken cache check.
🎯 Why: Improve performance of dataset cleaning and deduplication. Resolve a crash in telemetry state retrieval.
📊 Impact: ~6x speedup for whitespace removal, ~2x speedup for secret detection.
🔬 Measurement: Verified with benchmark_fuzzy_hash.py, benchmark_secrets.py, and test_bug.py.

- Optimized whitespace removal in `scripts/02_validate_clean.py` using `join(split())` (~6x faster than regex).
- Pre-compiled secret detection patterns in `scripts/02_validate_clean.py` (~2x faster).
- Removed redundant and broken cache check in `heidi_engine/telemetry.py` causing `NameError`.

Summary of Changes

Hello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request focuses on enhancing the efficiency of data cleaning and deduplication processes while also addressing a critical bug in the telemetry system. The changes significantly boost the speed of key operations like whitespace removal and secret detection, making the data pipeline more performant, and fix an issue that prevented proper telemetry state retrieval.

Highlights

  • Performance Optimization: Whitespace Removal: Optimized whitespace removal in scripts/02_validate_clean.py using str.split() and str.join(), resulting in approximately a 6x speedup compared to the previous regex-based approach.
  • Performance Optimization: Secret Detection: Improved the performance of secret detection in scripts/02_validate_clean.py by pre-compiling regex patterns, leading to a ~40% speedup for secret detection calls and an overall ~2x speedup for the feature.
  • Bug Fix: Telemetry Cache: Resolved a NameError in heidi_engine/telemetry.py by removing a redundant and broken thread-safe state cache check, ensuring telemetry state retrieval functions correctly.

Code Review

The pull request successfully addresses a NameError in heidi_engine/telemetry.py by removing a redundant and incorrectly implemented cache check. Additionally, it introduces two significant performance optimizations in scripts/02_validate_clean.py: pre-compiling regular expressions for secret detection and optimizing whitespace removal using a more efficient string manipulation technique. These changes align well with the stated objectives of improving performance and resolving the telemetry bug.
