Finbred is a deckbuilding strategy game where your cards are mutated aquatic assets being drawn into a volatile containment tank.
The lab's mandate is simple: splice monstrosities, extract daily yields, balance your tank's ecosystem, and collect elusive Omega Fish, all before time runs out.

Every Run is a 30-Day audit. Each day consists of 3 phases:
You'll start with an empty tank and a shuffled Bucket of starter specimens. Press Go Fish! to draw fish one by one to the tank.
Many Fish possess Traits that can effect the tank in various ways. You'll need to learn them and be strategic about every choice you make to control the chaos.
Press End Day to trigger a Bioscan and lock in your current tank's yields. Each specimen in the tank generates π₯ Eggs and π Shells based on their stats and abilities.
-
Tank Crashes: If toxic ammonia spikes too high during the day, your tank collapses and you'll earn zero income for that day (See Ammonia).
-
Clean Tank: +1 π Shells are awarded if ammonia is at zero when the day ends.
After scoring, all fish (even eaten or ejected ones) are swept back into your Bucket for tomorrow. Before proceeding you'll be taken to the Hatchery where you can:
- Buy Market Fish - spend π₯ Eggs to draft new fish into your Bucket.
- Expand Your Tank - spend π Shells to increase your tank capacity slots.
- Splice Freaks - use π₯ Eggs in the Incubator to breed new fish with spliced stats and traits.
- Cull Dead Weight - use π Shells to flush unwanted deck bloat.
- Pat The Fish - a useless button that Corporate mandated be added.
When you're done in the Hatchery, the next day begins, the cycle repeats.
Located in the Hatchery, the Incubator lets you play god with company assets. Select two parent specimens from your Bucket, fund the experiment with π₯ Eggs, and splice them to produce a Finbred - a new mutant offspring added back to your Bucket.
Finbred Inheritance:
- Traits - Mutants inherit one, or up to two, abilities from their parental lineage.
- Yields - Egg and Shell income is an unpredictable roll based on both parents' base stats.
- Variants - Unique bonus rarities have a chance to be passed down to offspring.
The Risks:
- Ammonia Toxicity: Ammonia risk can be passed down the bloodline. Splice two dirty polluters and you're engineering a guaranteed tank crash.
- Deck Bloat: Every Finbred you splice is a new card in your Bucket. A useless mutant can be a liability to your strategy. Corporate allows only one incubation per day, irrespective of rejecting or embracing your creations.
- Scaling Costs: The cost of incubation is derived from both Parents (with a minimum of 5 Eggs). More expensive Parents = more expensive Finbreds.
Unscientific Advice: If Finbreds keep crashing your tank, reconsider the parents you're splicing. You can preview your Offspring's inheritance odds directly in the Incubator after selection.
Secure Ξ© Omega Fish in the tank simultaneously for Bioscanning at the end of any day.
Ξ© Omega Fish are the pinnacle of company research; the most expensive assets on the market required for audit compliance. You fulfill your mandate and win your run the moment you end the day with the required number of specimens in the tank together.
Compliance Targets Your Targeted number of Omega Fish to win a run is derived from your selected difficulty. At the start of each run, you'll select a Threat Level and determine the challenge.
- Tank Janitor: x1 Omega Fish Target. Find your feet as you get inducted.
- Bucket Biologist: x2 Omega Fish Target. Working your way up the company ladder.
- Genome Analyst: x3 Omega Fish Target. The balanced difficulty to test real skill.
- Finnebriated: x4 Omega Fish Target. Recommended only for those drinking the tank water.
Unscientific Advice: The targeted number of Omega Fish for your run can be met with any combination of specimens. E.g. three distinctly different fish, or three of the same kind, should you choose.
FW: FW: RE: Unsolicited Tidbit: Omega Fish are expensive. To afford them, you'll have to consider your growing π₯ Eggs reserve and hold back on overspending each day to accumulate some wealth.
Costs, movement, and traits for all Fish are listed in full in the Fish Roster below.
Reach Day 30 without securing your Omega quota.
If Day 30 concludes without the required Omega Fish in your tank, your audit fails and the run terminates there. Post-failure, consult your Activity Log and Summary charts to identify where your economy stalled or which toxic crash doomed your run.
Daily yields are extracted during Bioscanning at the end of each day adding to your total reserves. Earnings carry over between days, but your stashed reserves have a strict 50 unit cap.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| π₯ Eggs | Extracted from daily yields. Spent in the Hatchery to draft market fish or incubate Finbreds. |
| π Shells | Extracted from daily yields. Spent in the Hatchery to expand tank capacity or flush the unwanted. |
| Capacity | Tanks start at 5 slots and max out at 40. Expansion costs scale upward with every purchase. |
| Corpses | Predator-consumed specimens leave behind floating corpses. Bones consume zero tank capacity. |
Certain specimens excrete ammonia into the water, tracked by a rising β£οΈ indicator in the UI.
- Toxicity Limit: If the tank accumulates 3 β£οΈ Ammonia, it immediately crashes.
- The Consequence: An ALGAE BLOOM or OVERLOAD alert triggers. The current day immediately ends and you earn zero income for that day.
- Daily Reset: All specimens survive the crash and are dumped back to your bucket. Ammonia resets to zero at the start of the next day, ready to start fishing again.
