v0.3.14.250932 Pre-release
Pre-release

New Features

FIDO hybrid and caBLE connection

This new feature makes it possible to use Passkeys accessible on your microG device from another phone and vice-versa.

  • To use a Passkey stored within microG on another device, select to use "your phone and tablet", "iPhone, iPad or Android device" or "device with a camera" (wording depends on browser and operating system) and scan the displayed QR code using the camera or QR code scanner on your microG device, when prompted open the link starting with FIDO:/ with microG Services. Then follow on-screen instructions.
  • There's also experimental support to use a security key (like a Yubikey) connected to your phone while fulfilling a remote Passkey request. This allows you to use NFC-based security keys on computers that don't have NFC built-in, by proxying the communication through your microG device.
  • When your Passkey is stored on a different device that supports this feature, you can also select to "Use a different device" whenever you are authenticating to an app or website on a microG device. It will trigger microG to display the QR code that can then be scanned by iOS and Android devices that support this feature.

Google Find My Device

You can now - optionally - connect your device to Google Find My Device Hub, allowing you to find your lost phone through a web browser on any other device signed into the same Google account. If you don't have a Google account or don't enable this feature, no additional data is sent to Google. microG does not support contributing to the Find My Device network to help finding of nearby devices (yet).

Android Credential Manager

You can now use microG's support for FIDO and Passkeys through Android's Credential Manager. This means you can store Passkeys on your device, use a remote device's Passkey or a security key with FIDO/Passkey support with all applications that use Android's Credential Manager to store or retrieve Passkeys or FIDO. The implementation does not include synchronization with Google's Passkey Service, nor does it support storing password credentials. To make use of this feature, you might need to select microG Services as a preferred or additional service in the "Passwords, passkeys & accounts" section in Android system settings. This feature is only available on Android 14 or later.

What's Changed

Notes

microG GmsCore now requests a few additional privileged permissions. As always, privileged permissions are optional for microG and you can continue using microG as an unprivileged app with only minor downsides. The new privileged permissions are:

  • android.permission.PROVIDE_REMOTE_CREDENTIALS
  • android.permission.PROVIDE_DEFAULT_ENABLED_CREDENTIAL_SERVICE

New Features

App Installer

microG Companion can now receive requests from other apps (e.g. Aurora Store) to install an app for them. This allows them to be recorded as installed from the com.android.vending package by the system, which is used as an installation source indicator by some apps.

Live location sharing

Some Google apps (e.g. Maps) can now instruct microG to share your location live with Google servers, so you can share it with friends or family while on the way. microG will always ask you to confirm you want to share location information.

New Features

Work Profile

You can now sign into various work accounts that setup a work profile when using microG. As microG does not comply with all functionality imposed by organization administrators, you need to enable this feature manually in microG Settings > Work profile. Together with this comes functionality to view and install apps suggested by the organization administrator through the Play Store.

Play Feature Delivery

Apps can request installation of additional languages or features from split packages. You can activate this from microG Settings > Play Store

Face detection

This release ships with initial support for Google's Face Detection API. This functionality is still very incomplete, but works for some apps using it.

New Features

Play Integrity

This release ships with an initial implementation of Play Integrity based on our previous work on SafetyNet. You can enable it using the device attestation toggle in SafetyNet settings. Note that, just as SafetyNet, this feature currently requires running proprietary DroidGuard code on your device. The attestation results also depend on similar factors that would influence the SafetyNet results, so if your device did not pass SafetyNet, you likely won't get a better Play Integrity result than MEETS_BASIC_INTEGRITY.

New Features

Play Asset Delivery

Play Asset Delivery is used mostly by Games to download additional resources that are to large to ship with the app itself. This new feature is disabled by default (except on -hw builds), so to use it you have to enable it in microG Settings -> "Play Store services" -> "Enable on-demand asset delivery". Note that this feature requires configuring a Google Account in microG and it is still experimental and known to not work in all situations.
