This pull request updates the Azure Sovereign Cloud infrastructure walkthrough to improve clarity, accuracy, and usability, especially regarding policy and role assignments at the resource group level. It also enhances the documentation with additional guidance, troubleshooting tips, and Azure portal screenshots to support users running commands in different environments.

The most important changes are:

Scope and Parameter Updates:

  • Changed policy assignments, custom role definitions, and role assignments from subscription-level to resource group-level for better granularity and alignment with best practices. This includes updating JSON templates, CLI commands, and associated documentation. [1] [2] [3]
  • Updated several Azure CLI commands to explicitly include the -g $RESOURCE_GROUP parameter, ensuring actions are performed at the intended scope and improving accuracy in querying and managing policies, role definitions, and exemptions. [1] [2] [3]

Usability and Guidance Improvements:

  • Added multiple tips and troubleshooting sections for users running commands in Cloud Shell, including instructions and screenshots for uploading files and managing policies, roles, and exemptions via the Azure portal. [1] [2] [3] [4]
  • Enhanced documentation with additional Azure portal screenshots for key tasks, such as resource creation, policy monitoring, and exemption management, to provide visual guidance. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Command and Query Corrections:

  • Improved CLI queries and filter logic for policy and compliance checks, including more informative output columns and corrected policy assignment names for accuracy. [1] [2]
  • Updated placeholder replacement instructions and scripts to ensure all required variables (including RESOURCE_GROUP) are correctly substituted in configuration files.

General Documentation Enhancements:

  • Provided additional context and best practice notes throughout the walkthrough, clarifying expected outcomes and recommended testing approaches.

These changes collectively make the walkthrough more robust, user-friendly, and aligned with Azure governance best practices.
