Users report inability to find "CoE Viewer" and "CoE Maker Viewer" security roles referenced in external documentation. These role names don't exist in the CoE Starter Kit - the actual roles are Power Platform Admin SR, Power Platform Maker SR, and Power Platform User SR (since April 2023).

Changes

  • Created comprehensive FAQ (CenterofExcellenceResources/FAQ-SecurityRoles.md)

    • Details all three security roles and their purposes
    • Step-by-step access grant instructions (security role + app sharing)
    • Explicitly clarifies non-existent "CoE Viewer" naming
    • Azure AD group integration guidance
  • Created quick reference (Documentation/SECURITY-ROLES-QUICK-REFERENCE.md)

    • One-page role comparison table
    • Common issue resolution
  • Updated navigation

    • Linked security role docs from Core Components README
    • Added to Documentation directory index

Role Mapping

Incorrect (doesn't exist) Correct Role Name
"CoE Viewer" Power Platform User SR
"CoE Maker Viewer" Power Platform Maker SR
N/A Power Platform Admin SR

Users need both Dataverse security role assignment AND Canvas app sharing to access CoE apps.

<issue_description>### Does this question already exist in our backlog?

  • I have checked and confirm this is a new question.

What is your question?

When researching how to give users access to the Power App apps that come with the CoE Starter Kit I found that you are supposed to assign them the CoE Viewer and CoE Maker Viewer roles. When I went looking for these roles they do not exist in my environment. When reseaching that I found that the initial import must not have completed successfully so I re-imported the Core Components. I still do not see those roles in my environment. Were these deprecated? If so, how do you grant users the ability to use the apps?

What solution are you experiencing the issue with?

Core

What solution version are you using?

January 2026

What app or flow are you having the issue with?

NA

What method are you using to get inventory and telemetry?

None</issue_description>

<agent_instructions>Analyze why the CoE security roles CoE Viewer and CoE Maker Viewer are missing after importing the latest CoE Core Components (Jan 2026). Confirm whether these roles were deprecated, renamed, or replaced, and provide the supported method for granting users access to CoE apps when these roles are not available.</agent_instructions>
