This repository contains the primary copy of all PRONOM signatures in JSON format. This is used to build the PRONOM signature file and container signature files, as used by DROID and other applications.
In future, this repository will be used to submit new signatures to PRONOM, but the process for this is currently being refined.
We actively encourage the submission of new information to improve PRONOM. If you have information on a file format that is not currently in the database; believe you could improve an entry; or have feedback, then please do get in touch.
Currently, to contribute to PRONOM, the easiest way is to submit an issue via our PRONOM Research GitHub repository, where a member of the team can pick it up easily. We can also be contacted via email at pronom@nationalarchives.gov.uk.
We are currently working on improving our contribution process, and this guidance will be updated as new options become available.
