Ensure manual npm publish checks the registry and moves already-published package versions to the next unpublished patch before publish continues. Constraint: GitHub Actions release publishes skip the auto-bump by default so signed assets stay tied to committed metadata. Tested: node --test test/prepublish-bump-version.test.js test/metadata.test.js Tested: openspec validate agent-codex-auto-bump-package-version-before-npm-pub-2026-06-17-10-18 --type change --strict Tested: openspec validate --specs Tested: env npm_config_cache=/tmp/npm-cache-gitguardex npm pack --dry-run Tested: env npm_config_cache=/tmp/npm-cache-gitguardex npm publish --dry-run --access public Not-tested: npm test; run hung after TAP header for several minutes and was stopped.
