## Rust Medellín joins the challenge

We have news that fills us with pride: **Rust Medellín** is joining the [Distributed Snake Challenge](https://oxidar.org/snakear/)] to hack **simultaneously from two cities**.

On **April 11, 2026**, while part of the community gathers in Buenos Aires, Rust Medellín will be connected from **Medellín, Colombia**, building, compiling, and competing in the same challenge in real time.

---

## One hackathon, two cities, one community

This collaboration is a demonstration of what the Rust community in Latin America means: borderless, eager to learn and build together.

The challenge remains the same: implement a client for the **Distributed Snake**, a multiplayer game where the board is shared and synchronization between players is key. You can explore:

- **Networking in Rust**: sockets, protocols, and efficient serialization
- **Distributed global state**: real-time synchronization with the server
- **Frontend freedom**: Bevy, SDL2, Ratatui, or pure terminal, whichever you prefer

---

## Event details

- **Date:** 04/11/2026
- **Buenos Aires venue:** Torres Catalina - Retiro
- **Medellín venue:** organized by Rust Medellín
- **Requirements:** laptop with the Rust toolchain installed and willingness to debug

---

## Register

You can sign up from either city:

**[Register for the event](https://luma.com/mvpjxeqh)]**

> Level doesn’t matter: whether you just finished the *Book* or already have experience with distributed systems, this hackathon has something for you.

**We look forward to continuing to grow the Rust community in Latin America!**
