Ports the XWB NS-mode broker client from vista-fm-browser with the clean-break rules from LESSONS-LEARNED (no code imports; re-typed with the source as a spec reference). Modules (src/fm_web/broker/): - errors.py — 7 typed exceptions: BrokerError base, plus Connection / Timeout / Handshake / RpcDenied / Authentication / FileMan / Protocol variants. - allowlist.py — 12 read-only RPCs (XUS signon trio, DDR quartet, DDR GET DD + DD HASH, ORWU DT, XWB IM HERE). require_allowed() is the read-only security boundary — architectural invariant #2. - wire.py — NS-mode codec: sread/lread, build_connect_packet, build_list_param, build_rpc_packet, parse_response. - responses.py — DDR* payload parsers + GetsEntry / ListerEntry. - crypt.py — XUSRB1 substitution cipher for XUS AV CODE. - client.py — VistARpcBroker with allow-list enforcement and high-level helpers (signon, gets_entry_data, list_entries, find1, finder). Socket I/O isolated behind a _send_recv seam for testing. - fake.py — FakeRPCBroker in-memory twin, same public API. Tests (tests/unit/, 83 passing + 1 placeholder = 84 total): - test_errors, test_allowlist: exception shape + allow-list invariants including "no writing RPCs". - test_wire: 27 bytes-level assertions on NS-mode encoding. - test_responses: DDR parser edges (carets-in-values, CRLF, empty). - test_crypt: XUSRB1 marker bytes + round-trip inversion. - test_client: allow-list enforced before bytes; handshake accept/ reject; packet construction via _send_recv seam; response parsing. - test_fake: lifecycle, allow-list, call recording, signon redaction. Phase 1 remaining (next session): - [17] Record VEHU fixtures via live integration test. - [18] Contract tests asserting FakeRPCBroker matches real broker.
