Plant and Habitat, Information Status and Alarms
It's been a few months since the first 6 Martians arrived on the planet, to live and work in the 4 modules that were delivered to Mars autonomously, 6 Months ago. Martian1 woke up in one of the 2 residential modules, opposite the bed is a generic display panel showing a customized array of graphs and many light-coloured rectangles. Relieved that none of the panel graphics are red, Martian1 heads off to the common module to grab a morning coffee with the other early risers.
In the common module there are a few more generic display panels on the wall, showing internal and outside radiation, pressure, temperature, humidity and gas measurement graphs. The centre panel has attracted the attention of a few of the other Martians, as it's showing overnight messages from Earth's Martian embassy.
Martian2 picks up a nearby tablet PC and pokes one of the existing tabs on the Chrome browser. The tab is showing a customised page from the same grafana server (https://play.grafana.org/) that all the other display panels are also connected to. The tab shows power usage and power generation of each of the 4 living and working modules, there's no red graphics so all's good.
Martian2 then notices a dirty coffee cup in washing up bowl, it looks like someone was up early and has got started on the days tasks. Martian2 uses Chrome to display grafana's map of the base which shows 20 pins in various locations inside and outside. Martian2 sets a map filter that removes the drones and rover pins, and only shows pins for Martians. The map pin indicates that Martian4 is in the 4th module, the food production & food storage module.
Martian2 is wondering why Martian4 is in there, so clicks the grafana icon to change the view to see the module 4 readouts. Its obvious from the graphics that there is an orange status on the food crop irrigation flow sensors. The pump readouts are trending OK so nothing too serious, probably a blocked pipe again.
Plan various dummy(scripted) measurement and location data from
- machines
- environment sensors
- location sensors
To be streamed into a time series database (i.e. influx and or Prometheus)
Plan dashboards that aggregate the database data into context/areas/subjects/locations of interest
The dashboards should also be capable of summarizing equipment status (for example with colour coding) and alarm generation
Maybe also give some thought to how the sensors are networked, which wired and wireless technologies?
And for the love of hardware...
- consider options for reasonably low tech (I.e. easy to repair), low power consumption, cheap, reliable, mass produced sensors
- mass produced (hobby/industrial) compute boards for sensor data gathering
Integrate a grafana and time series DB (maybe two different DB's Influx & Prometheus) into containers/PC/VM
Design different grafana dashboards with info & alarms for:
- plant(machines) - their readiness & location
- habitat - human life support environment, health & location
