Instant Lookup
The Instant Lookup is a central feature of KeyCombiner Desktop. It enables you to instantly look up all shortcuts that are in your combined collections, enrolled lessons, and those of the currently active application. On macOS, KeyCombiner can even show the shortcuts for the active browser URL!
When you activate the instant lookup, KeyCombiner will find out the active application's name. Using this name, it sorts all matching combinations from your personal collections and lessons to the top of the lookup table. The matching does a case-insensitive comparison of the application's name and the combination's Context field.
In addition, KeyCombiner will show the default shortcuts for the active application using its database of public collections that is included in a local KeyCombiner Desktop installation. Internet access is not needed for the instant lookup.
Please note that applications for which there is no public collection are currently ignored for this process. You can still include combinations for such applications in your personal collections and then use the instant lookup's search to quickly pull them up.
On macOS, if a web browser is detected as the active application, KeyCombiner can find out the URL of the active tab. This URL is then matched to a public collection and the shortcuts for the active web application are shown on top of the instant lookup in addition to the Browser's default shortcuts.
Unfortunately, this feature is currently not available on Windows and Linux as KeyCombiner cannot find out the active tab's URL on these systems.
In addition to default shortcuts for the active application combinations from your personal collections and lessons that match the active application, KeyCombiner will always include all other personal collections and lessons at the bottom of the instant lookup table.
This way, your entire shortcut knowledge is always at your fingertips. It also enables you to add shortcuts for applications that KeyCombiner does not recognize. Even though they will not be displayed on top automatically, you can still easily search and browse through them while you are using the said application.
Make sure you reload the instant lookup table via Ctrl/Cmd+R after making changes to your personal collections or after enrolling in additional lessons. You must trigger the reload while the instant lookup dialog is shown.
