Adding Support for New Devices/Platforms

Bringing a new device or platform into the fold takes some effort, depending on its current software support—like open-source status, bootloader availability, kernel maintenance, drivers, and any post-install tweaks. Want to see your favorite hardware supported by this installer? Here’s how you can make it happen:

1. Submit a Pull Request

  • How: If you’ve got the device and want to contribute, jump in with a pull request! You’re always welcome to join the fun.
  • What You’ll Need:
    • A compiled U-Boot package or UEFI firmware (if the device requires it).
    • An actively maintained kernel—vendor-provided or mainline works.
    • Necessary firmware/drivers, plus any post-install steps if needed.
  • Where to Start: Tweak the configuration files and build workflows.
  • Tip: Kick off a GitHub discussion first to chat about your plan—it’ll smooth the process!

2. Reach Out to the Project Maintainer

  • How: Curious if I’d tackle a specific device or platform? Ask away! I’m @kwankiu, and you can ping me via:
    • A GitHub discussion post.
    • Discord (@kwankiu.)—drop me a line!
  • Why: I’m open to ideas, especially if it aligns with the project’s vibe—let’s see what we can cook up together.

Supporting This Project

Projects like this thrive on time, effort, and a passion for open-source—digging into hardware quirks, tweaking kernels, and crafting tools to bring Arch Linux to devices like the RK3588 and beyond. If you’d like to help keep it rolling, here’s how you can chip in:

  • Donations: Every bit helps with costs (think test hardware or late-night fuel) and keeps the project growing. Loving the installer or the arch linux idea? A small nudge via GitHub Sponsors goes a long way—no pressure, just thanks if you do!
  • Partnerships: Got a device, platform, or vision to collab on? I’m keen to team up with vendors, hobbyists, or anyone eager to expand this project’s reach. Start a GitHub discussion or hit me up on Discord (@kwankiu.) to brainstorm.

Big thanks for being part of this—whether you’re testing, coding, or just rooting for it. Let’s keep making Linux awesome!
