#3D Printing F.A.Q. ####Where are the Muthesius 3D printers?
- Our Lab is in the workshops tower at Muthesius Kunsthochschule, floor 1, left to the metal workshop.
####I'm interested, can I have a look?
- Sure. You can come by during our opening times
####What do I need for my first 3D print job?
- Geometry in a digital format. We can't print your ideas directly out of your brain. This is what CAD is for. Most people transfer their data in a format called .STL
####How do I sign in for my first 3D print job?
- Take a deep breath, double-check your geometry and put it in a mail. Add your adress and an emergency phone number and send it with best regards to prototyping (at) muthesius.de. We will send you a cost preview. If you send your request to any other email adress, there's a chance that we just don't read it.
####What size can my 3D print have?
- Depends on the printer, but the longest side of your part should be smaller than 300mm. See printers
####What materials can I use?
- You can choose from a range of sustainable organic PLA to not-so-healthy artificial acrylic photopolymers. See materials
####How much will it cost?
- This depends on the volume of your model and the printer you want to use. 1000g of the Objet resin, for example, cost 250€, while 1000g of PLA filament cost about 25€.
####Is it possible to print metal?
- Not with our machines. Maybe in the future.
####How does the printer know what to do with my geometry?
- It's magic called G-Code. For more information, see Slicing
####I am standing at the closed door and it seems to be some conference in there. Can I disturb the meeting and knock the door?
- Consider ringing the bell to your left. If this doesn't help, try gentle knocking.
####Where can I find the Frequently Asked Questions?
- This is the most frequently not-asked question. You know the Answer now.
